Hello

I am getting below error during the conversion...there is a firemwall between the ESXi and source VM, however any <-> any is opened bi-directional between the ESXi/VM/Converter tool..

Re: New install of vmware to host two Windows 2012r2 domain controllers

Thank you for your help.

Yes we are expecting more than 253 active systems.  I've only changed to this since we have had site wide wifi, and although we only have just over 120 client machines, we also have 30 or so wireless access points.  But as we potentially have 450 users, I'm concerned a number of them will obtain addresses for mobile devices.

So this could be achieved by installing Exsi 6 on my new server and to manage the server remotely?

As I can start from scratch, does the IP layout make sense or would you arrange it some other way?

Re: No VMnet0 or bridged networking

1. First at all, you need to check if you have the bridge service (corresponding to the VM you are using) on your adapter (wifi / eth)

Found interesting lines about this here:

Windows: Error: There are no un-bridged host network adapters - tech :: stuff

2. Then you have to configure the bridge VMNET0 on the Virtual Network Editor as recommended here:

Workstation fails to bridge adapter with the error: Cannot change network to bridged: There are no un-bridged host netwo…

3. if you want your guest on the same network of your host, then I suppose more practical solution is to set the dhcp ranges on the Virtual Network Editor (I could do this only when "Host Only" was enable, once modified the dhcp ip range, I enable-switched into bridge option). Then on my VM (linux) I renew my Virtual Ethernet Interface by:

sudo dhclient -v-r eth0 (release)

sudo dhclient -v eth0  (request)

I think that should help.

Thanks, you are correct, for some reason the character has some difference from typing it in the console directly rather than copy and paste from notepad

DropDown External Value Question

$

Apologize for the simple question, I've attempted to do the research manually but I am missing a clear designation on one point of confusion.

If I want to create a custom action to be used as a set of external values within an XaaS form drop down menu, I should create my action type as "array/string". However, if I predefined my XaaS drop down, I can supply a key/value hash. Can I return a key/value hash from an action such that I can control visible name and returned value per entry?

As a follow up, Is there any specific document or place which lists acceptable values types per element used?  Sort of like how the EBS gives me a nice overview of schema.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Cant figure out how to add size of all the snapshots combined, Please Help!

Hello All,

The below code lists out all the snapshots with age, name, size, etc which is all good.

However I want a function to add & list the total size of all the snpashots combined.

I am no expert but I tried a lot of things still no luck. All suggestion are welcome.

##########################################

$Report =Get-VM | Get-Snapshot | Select

   @{N="Age" ; E={((Get-Date) - $_.Created).days}},

   VM,

   @{Label="Size";Expression={"{0:N2}" -f ($_.SizeGB)}},

   Created,

   @{Label="Created by";Expression={''}},Name,Description,

   @{N="OS";E={$_.vm.Guest.OSFullName}}

foreach($snap in $Report)

{

$snap.'Created by'= Get-VIEvent -entity ($snap.vm) -type info -MaxSamples 1000 | Where {$_.FullFormattedMessage.contains("Create virtual machine snapshot")} | Select-Object -First 1 -ExpandProperty username

}

$Sho += $Report | Select Age,VM,OS,Size,"Created by",Created,Name,Description |Sort-Object -Property Age -Descending | ConvertTo-Html -Fragment

$SnapSize = ($Sho | Measure-Object 'Size' -Sum).Sum

I have looked at both KB2114357 and Set-PowerCLIConfiguration.  These don't seem to apply to this specific issue.

I am able to log in with vSphere client.

Get-PowerCLIConfiguration is already set to InvalidCertificateAction = Ignore

VPX_PARAMETER is already set to SSL.Version = all

Any other suggestions?

I can't see whats wrong in the syntax.

When I try it with the wrong path I get a different error:

[root@esxi01:~] vmkfstools --growfs /vmfs/devices/disks1/naa.60003ff24d0844cbad0ce012442f053a:1 /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.60003ff24d0844cbad0ce012442f0531:1

Device path name "/vmfs/devices/disks/naa.60003ff24d0844cbad0ce012442f0531:1" is not a valid absolute or relative path

Failed to resolve volume device path /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.60003ff24d0844cbad0ce012442f0531:1.

Error: No such file or directory

When I write the correct, on a disk that can't grow, it looks like this:

[root@esxi01:~] vmkfstools --growfs "/vmfs/devices/disks/naa.60003ff24d0844cbad0ce012442f053a:1" "/vmfs/devices/disks/naa.60003ff24d0844cbad0ce012442f053a:1"

Underlying device has no free space

Error: No space left on device

Also working without the " " btw. Happened to me a while back when I copied from a blog that the "" was some other sort that the command didn't like.

[root@esxi01:~] vmkfstools --growfs /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.60003ff24d0844cbad0ce012442f053a:1 /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.60003ff24d0844cbad0ce012442f053a:1

Underlying device has no free space

Error: No space left on device

Try comparing my syntax with yours (not the first), and/or paste yours and I can see if there is any difference that I miss in the picture you attached.

Cannot delete Change Tracking File (CTK) from the datastore.

Hello All,

Good Day,

During the clean up activity of my infrastructure found an Virtual Machine folder contains only 2 CTK files in a datastore.  I can able to rename them but not move or delete it.  Not sure how those two files left out when the VM was deleted.

I have tried below Steps :

# Create the VM with the same name.

# Taken snapshots

# Enabled CTK on VM

# Powered ON again to generate the CTK file

# Powered off the VM

# Unregistered the VM and moved all VM files to the Orphaned CTK file folder

# Replaced the CTK entry in the Snapshot descriptor file

# Registered the VM and powered ON with Error (VMDK is corrupted ...)

Looking forward some help on this.

High memory usage alert after upgrading to vSphere 6

$

Last night I upgraded my last ESX host from vSphere 5.5 to vSphere 6 update 2 + patches.

Ever since updating the VMware tools on my SQL server VM, I have been getting a "high virtual machine memory usage" alert constantly.  If I look at the guest, I see usage in the 24-25 GB range, with a little more on standby, but that only gets us to about 95%.  However on the VM Host charts and VM Summary, the memory has been shown as pegged at the max allocated to the VM: 32 GB.  I have attached screen shots.  Prior to the upgrade, it obviously didn't do this.  The active memory monitor was never accurate but also never pegged at the max.

Any advice or interpretation for this?

Thanks,

- Michelle
