Disclaimer: I've opened a case with support, but thought I'd put it out there for the community, too.
I've got VDR doing backups to a VMDK, and I've tested the restores, so from a purely functional standpoint, VDR is working as documented. However, the backup times are terrible, and I can't put that all on the shoulders of the datastore for the VMDK (NFS-based datastore on an iomega ix4).
In reviewing the logs, I'm seeing that:
a) none (nada, nicht, nein) of my backups are using SCSI hot-add, even though I'm pretty sure I meet all the criteria for it.
b) CBT is being used/enabled inconsistently across VMs. There are some VMs that have been powered-down to upgrade the VM from v7 to v8 and CBT isn't being automatically enabled; there are some VMs that haven't been powered down since being upgraded to v7 (from v4) and they have CBT enabled.
The sum of things is that some VMs back up very quickly (even if CBT isn't enabled), while others back up very slowly, and there's no good way to figure out how to tune the thing.
I just don't get it...
Hi thanks for sharing the information .Have you got any resolution from vmware ?
