VMware KB: ESXi/ESX hosts in APD may appear Not Responding in vCenter Server
Yes this behaviour was somehow "fixed" in 5.1 but only for a clean APD state when the LUN was not coming back and getting disconnected all over again. A clean connection cut would not bother the host, intermittent LAN or SAN issues still do though.
