Hello Everyone,
I'm looking for some general suggestions on how to implement remote administration for ESXi. I'm going to be deploying a web server in a remote location. The hardware has two Ethernet ports. One is dedicated as a WAN port that gets routed directly to the web server VM. The other Ethernet port is available. I'm trying to decide if I should utilize this available port and configure it for remote vSphere client access.
1. Should I assign a public IP to the available port and then use the built-in ESXi firewall to protect vSphere client access?
2. Should I put a router in front of the hardware and route the ports to the web server and ESXi? Theoretically I then only have to use one IP and I get a bit more security. I'm avoiding this option because I don't want to spend the funds on the router.
3. I could use SSH with SSH port tunneling via the web server and connect the vSphere client that way. This obviously has a major downside. If the web server crashes then getting access to ESXi won't be possible.
4. We're not using vCenter which means web access to ESXi is not possible?
5. Any other suggestions?
Many thanks.
